Enhancing Civil Engineering Education with AI-Driven Adaptive Immersive Virtual Reality
As construction remains one of the most hazardous industries worldwide, this dissertation explores how immersive virtual reality (IVR) and artificial intelligence (AI) can bridge the gap in construction safety training within civil engineering education. By integrating adaptive feedback mechanisms into VR simulations, the study aims to transform traditional static training into personalized, data-driven learning experiences.
Through a three-article dissertation, I systematically review current practices, design a structured feedback IVR prototype, and experimentally evaluate the effectiveness of AI-adaptive VR compared to conventional methods. Grounded in experiential and situated cognition theories, this research contributes both theoretical insights and practical design models to the fields of educational technology, engineering education, and safety training.
